Queen’s Blade Cute Figma figure review.

cute head
This Figma was a limited run that was available with the collector’s edition of the PSP game ‘Queen’s Blade: Spiral Chaos.’  It is a Figma of the main character of the game, I find it interesting in that Max Factory, who make Figmas made this instead of Revoltech who have made all the action figures of Queen’s Blade so far.  Although I do think that Max Factory have been in production of a lot of the QB statues that are out and about.

Cute comes in a slightly larger than normal Figma box, as it contains the PSP case, the figure, a CD and a small art book.  I see that Cute is labeled as SP-006.  It makes me curious as to the other SP-000’s are.  Hmm, perhaps the Drossel that came with the DVD set is one.  I will have to look now.  So one side of the box looks like a toy case, whereas the other is designed more like a game case.

Cute is encased in a moulded backing plastic holder doo-hicky, with all her bits and pieces.  The accessories she comes with are, spare faces (3 altogether), two swords and a damage body (M-Mode) as well as a stand and a bunch of option hands

The swords are quite well done, actually they look kind of like a couple of large curved cleavers, and she holds them like a downwards stabbing dagger, but they are nicely cut and have some great colouration on them, with some subtle blending of the silver and purple colour as you look along the blade.  It is most impressive.

The hands are very small and don’t allow any bending of the fingers anywhere, so the handles of the blade can be pulled out and have to be slid into the fists and then the blades must be plugged back onto the handles.

Luckily though, they have corresponding handles and it is easy to see where and how each plugs in.  Just don’t twist the handles when removing them as they will break the small tab.  Pull straight out.

Onto the actual figure itself.

It is a pretty good figure with usual Figma articulation, knee, ankle, shoulders, neck, elbows, waist and rib area.  Cute’s clothes are made of a pliable rubber/plastic which gives a little, but not a lot when pressured.  It is possible to get her thighs out straight, due to the dress, but it only moves a little.  It will retain its shape over moving for a leg.  Her clothes seem to remind me a a maid outfit, as she has the skirt, a petty coat, and an apron looking thing.  It is a good look actually and I have grown to quite like it.  Unlike the Revoltech figures, none of the clothing is removable, except the neck tie and the parts connected to that.

There is some very very cool detail on her costume that I was most impressed with.  first off would have to be her carry bag, it’s got a lovely little monster face on it and on her waistcoat, she has a smiley badge thing.

Add to that are the various stars littered around her, including in her eyes.  Her legs have some nicely moulded stockings on them with little lacing details and crosses for clips.  Her gauntlets and greaves are plain red and white but still carry the star motif and look pretty cool, although the design of the greaves, along with her boots manage to swamp the ankle joint, limiting the movement there quite heavily.  I like the little wings on her shoes as well.  She strikes me as a heavenly character, with the wings and stars dotted all over her. ( She features the wings on the back of her neck tie as well, as well as a small star.)  She even has a star tattoo on her shoulder and it even has little eyes as well.  Amazing detail!

Now, it wouldn’t be QB without a bit of raunchiness now would it?   So we have some interesting panties with long string bits hanging off the end and I was impressed to see the waist straps for her stockings were included under her skirt.  Her panties have some nice frill details added to them which is a nice touch, especially since they are rarely going to come off (nothing underneath them y’see).

Well, although Cute here can’tt lose her clothes like a lot of the Revoltech QB figures, she does come a an ‘M-mode’ setting.  She actually has a separate body, that has battle damage to it.  It is a solid piece , so upper arms and thighs can’t be moved, but there are elbow and knee joints.  When you swap her head over, you have to take the neck joint along as well.  The peg hole for the stand has moved from her back to her side as well.

There are no clothes to add/take away from this setup and the end result with limbs attached looks a bit like this.

BLAAAAAM!

No nudity invloved, but there is a substantial amount of clothe ripping going on and a little bit of bumb crack that makes an appearance and a nice smattering of side-boob as well.   The fact that you can’t move most of the body kind of relegates this option to a statue mode really.  Personally I prefer her with her clothes fully intact since they have so much nice detailing on them.  Plus I think for the M mode, I would have liked to see the monster bag change facial expressions or something, maybe even the badge as well, just for a nice touch.

Her faces are nicely done and look like the game character, complete with stars in her eyes, hair band and flick of pink hair.  You need to take off her fringe to change the faces, but it isn’t terribly hard.  She is a very posable character and is altogether well made.  Even her flat-chest is appropriately sized as well, which is rare for Queens’ Blade really.  Beware however of her cuffs, they like to come off with the hands every time and can be a bit tricky to get to stay in I have found.

Overall , I quite like this figure.  The look is just like the game character, the weapons have some awesome colouring and the moulding doesn’t inhibit the articulation much, except for the ankles, which is easily overcome.  The various little details that are included, like the upper arm star tattoo having eyes just adds a bit of icing to the cake making this a wonderful Figma.  Sure, some of the paint gets a tiny tiny bit sloppy on the M mode body, but considering how rough that area looks, I don’t think that is much of a concern.

As a bonus with the game it is great and I think will go well with my other QB figs.  Although being a Figma, I think I need to check her out for scale against the Revoltechs.  As a single character though, well unless you have game connections then there really isn’t much justification for the character, but it would still be a nice figure by itself.
